What is the Safe Streets to School Master Plan?

The Safe Streets Master Plan is a project to make our community's roads safer and more accessible. It aims to reduce traffic injuries and deaths, encourage walking and biking, and create a better urban environment. The plan includes input from community members to ensure their needs and ideas are heard. By focusing on safety, the plan seeks to provide a fair transportation system for everyone. We want to inspire healthy travel choices and create a culture of safety for everyone in our community.

Why it Matters

A Safe Routes to School (SRTS) plan is important because it promotes safe and active transportation for students, encouraging them to walk or bike to school, which helps improve their health and reduce childhood obesity. By addressing hazards on routes and fostering community involvement, the plan enhances safety and reduces traffic congestion around schools. Additionally, it promotes lifelong habits of physical activity and ensures equitable access for all students, particularly in underserved areas, creating a healthier and more connected community.
