Central Newmarket Creek Flood Mitigation Study
Flooding along Newmarket Creek has impacted nearby residents for more than a decade, causing repeated damage to homes in both Hampton and Newport News and creating ongoing recovery challenges for affected communities. To address these concerns, the Cities of Hampton and Newport News have jointly secured FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance funding to identify long-term solutions for chronic flooding in the Central Newmarket Creek Watershed, with a focus on the area highlighted in yellow on the map below. Building on previous studies and complementing ongoing watershed initiatives, this effort will help identify effective flood mitigation strategies to reduce flood risk and create a safer, more resilient future for Newmarket Creek residents.
